if you have not already done so there was a very good thread about desatting with excercise posted originally by ladybug. I do not have any good advice for you.

I would say anytime your situation has changed drastically, as i tsounds your has, it is time to re-evaluate everythign and see doc(s). If you dont feel that different could it be soemthign as simple as a large plug that is keeping you from getting your normal O2?

If you do get checked and all is ok and you decide you want to improve your cardio ability look up heart rate training. (please only do this if all truly checks out fine) It can greatly improve your bodies ability to use oxygen and improve your lung function, many see results in just 3-4 weeks. The good thing is you dont have to be some miraculous athlete since it oges on YOUR heart rate not on some set curve. Basically you do short intervals of whatever type workout, fast walking etc as hard as you can with intervals of slower work in between with heart rate at a nromal level these short burst train your body to work more effectively during htese times thus training it to use the oxygen etc more efficiently.

I hope you figure it all out

You should have your PFT's checked. If you don't want to go to your clinic, can you get them checked at your allergist? I am sure you know that with CF we can have things going on that affect our FEV1 that don't show signs of a fever or even a cold. Be safe

With your oximeter, you should always be above 90. Anything below 90 will over-task your heart. When you check your O2, remember things like nail polish and cold weather or cold hands can affect that reading. When you walk around, it is normal to desat some at first; however, again anything below 90 is something you should have checked out. Also, if you are having any kind of headaches at night, racing heart, nausea in the morning these can be signs of desaturation.

Advair helped me a lot with my saturation

I desat during exercise and sleeping now too. My PFT's are higher than they have been in a few months thanks to a tune up and now home IVs. The reason I am desating is because I have ALOT of plugs in the bottom of my lungs that are trapping old stale air that is sucking the new O2 and making me desat (according to my DR). So although my lungs are technically better, they are in a sense worse too. I would call your DR and get full PFTs done to check everything. It is probably just a few plugs but if they aren't taken care of they can cause problems.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for all the help. I will be making an appointment this week to get in for some exercise testing and/or sleep study. They were able to fit me in for this week for at least spirometry (possibly full pft's depending on how backed up they are/aren't), a sputum sample (assuming I can produce one), and a cxr at the same time so we'll see what that turns up and it also helps me avoid having to sit through a long appointment with the new fellow. I think a lot of my exercise problem is about not being in shape though.
