Hi Everyone,

I am fairly new to this forum and if this is not the appropriate place to post or should not be posted at all please move or remove it.

I do not know if others are aware of this Policy from Physicians Mutual <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.physiciansmutual.com/products/hospitalization_p610/index.html">Physycians Mutual Hospitalization Insurance</a>

My parents started the policy for me when I was first diagnosed and I have kept it up as an adult since I find it helpful.

Let me explain a bit about it:

If you have a pre-existinging condition they require you to have the policy for one year before they will start paying out.

Everytime you go to the ER, have a PICC line placed (or any surgery), have a hospital stay etc they will pay you. For example if you go to the ER they give you $100.00 dollars, if you have a PICC placed they pay you $100.00 dollars. If you have a Hospital stay they will pay you $75.00 a day (after staying in the hospital for x amount of days you require rest at home or additional care at home they will give you $35.00 a day up to the number of days you were in the hospital).

The reason my parents got the policy was to persuade me to go into the Hospital when I needed treatments by giving me the money after the stay. I find this policy very helpful in covering deductibles or other expenses that I incur.

The policy for me (not sure if it varies) is about $400.00 per year and there have been years when I did not make back my $400.00 but overall I have considerably more than recovered what I paid in to them. They are also very quick with responding to the claims. I fax them my paperwork (cover note of when and where I was in the hospital and a copy of my admission paperwork or proceedure paperwork 2-3 pages) and have my check in the mailbox in 3-5 days.

Btw, I am in no way affiliated with them I just wanted to share something with everyone that has been helpful to me.

I this type of policy thru Combined Life. Many companies offer it including AARP which my hubby & I are now members of LOL! It is a life saver with finances. I have gotten my money's worth out of them. They keep trying to sell me other policies to make up for it. I made sure to get it so I knew I could make the waiting period with no problem and a few months after the waiting period was up I went into the hospital. Definitely something to think about for many CFers.

I have a physician's mutual hospital indemnity policy that I pay less for per month in premiums and get $50 a day in hospital... However, I've never heard of $100 for picc lines... how would I know if I should get that? I recently had to have surgery to have my picc placed that cost $600 (before insurance portion), and would LOVE to make $100 because of that!

Thanks for posting this info. My clinic said AFLAC used to do this too, but stopped offering it to CFers. Their policy was VERY good offerring up to $200 a day in hospital!!!

Ladybug, my policy is called "Outpatient Plus Plan"

My paperwork states Thank you for enrolling:

"You'll collect $75.00 a day, $525.00 a week, $2,250.00 a month for as long as you are hospitalized for any covered sickness or accident.

You'll collect Double benefits whenever you are hospitalized for Cancer or Heart Attack.

Plus, you'll be covered for outpatient treatment! You will receive $100.00 for injuries treated or surgical procedures performed in the outpatient department of the hospital and any surgical center. And there is no limit to how many times you can collect."

Like I stated I fax them a note saying I was in x hospital on this date for an outpatient surgical procedure PICC line placement. Then I fax them my admission paperwork. I just got a check yesterday from my last PICC line.

If you are unsure if you are covered I would suggest you call them and check or go ahead an submit a claim <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> the worst they can do is turn it down.

Good Luck <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Their web site says this: "Please note, some primary insurers or plans may reduce your benefits by the amount paid under this plan."

can anyone tell me how their plans affect their insurance? I have good insruance now and dont want to create extra headaches or mess up my benefits in any way.

thanks

I have gotten thousands and thousands of dollars over the last few years and never have had to report it on my taxes. I dont even get a 1099 or any other report from them for tax purposes. It also does not affect my insurance benefits in any way. I would THINK that any state benefits (I know for sure with New York State Medicaid) that it would be considered income and the ?? is even on the initial application regarding an indemnity policies so any state funded programs would be reduced according to what you get from the indemnity policy.
