breathing in mountains

I went to the top of Mount Titlis as well in 1989. My FEV1 was higher then, but I had no problems with breathing whatsoever. But everyone's different...

I am too little to remember this, but my mom says that when we lived in Colorado that my brother and I were in and out of the ER with breathing trouble because of the elevation.

This would probably be a good question for Uli...I think she's been there at least once cause I can tell she really enjoys traveling!
Depending on the elevation, the oxygen level decreases. I was in Colorado Springs a few times and didn't feel any major difference, except the one time I went with my brother-in-law and his friend to the shooting range, and he told me to hurry up and change the target before they start shooting...I dashed a good 100 meters or so, before I got exhausted, and realized I had to do that same distance on the way back...got a bit dizzy after that!!
depending on how high the pft's are, your daughter might do ok, but making preparations like oxygen might be in order.
Good luck!

I have been away from the boards for a while... in reviewing posts I had to respond to this one.

I had a HAS test (High Altitude Study) done before going on vacation to Yosemite (alt 4,000 - 7,000)

It showed that at 5,000 + I would need o2. (My normal sats are 90-95 and my FEV1 is about 40%). Except for the first day adjusting to the altitude, I wound up not having any trouble what so ever. (I live at alt 2,300)

Ask for this study to be done, so if she normally isn't on o2, at least they could rx it for her, if needed.

...tell her to have fun in Europe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
