What antihistamines are ok for CFers to take?

Since I was diagnosed last year I haven't asked my doc what I can take. I know certain decongestants are not a good idea but I don't know which ones. My sinuses are very runny and now I have a sore throat. I'd prefer something OTC so I don't have to go to the clinic. What about Afrin? Claritin (loratadine)? I'm using Fisherman's Friend for my sore throat and I already did an extra treatment today though I don't feel it in my lungs yet.

Ethan's doctor says Ethan has "CF Sinuses" (duh, really? lol) and has him on Claritin and Sudafed (when needed). Basically, during spring...he is MISERABLE...I mean...it would drive me insane if my sinuses did what his do. He is getting a CT scan of his sinuses soon and allergy testing...but I hope he gets relief soon - poor thing. I know there are others that say NO DECONGESTANTS...but all dr's are different. GOOD LUCK!

my cf doc once told me to steer clear of benadryl cause its extremely drying (duh... lol!) and often dries out lung secretions as well which isn't good for CFers.

i use singulair for allergies/asthma.

My dr tells me to stay away from benadryl as well since it's drying.. Only use if a major reaction occurs.

I took some Mucinex D the other week, just for one day... I felt better for a day but then I felt soooooo phlegmy and couldn't stop coughing for the next few days. Then I realized it was probably from the decongestant in the Mucinex.

I think Zyrtec is drying too.. I was taking it for a while, and then realized that I was feeling really tight and just bad. I stopped taking it and I do feel better.
