How did you know you were allergic to it? I am on the 250/50 after much persistence. I just made an appointment with an allergy asthma specialist. Thanks for the advice. If you have any suggestions for my consultation, I am open. I just want good control<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Thank you again!

I was having allergic problems and asthma. He upped me to 500/50 and my asthma got better, but my itching and an unusual SOB got worse. I went on Symbicort and all of the SOB and allergic reactions went away within a day or two and never returned. That's how we found out.

I think something for you to find out is if there is an asthma or reactive airway problem in your lungs. It's interesting that you said air conditioning made your FEV go down. FEV can go down for many reasons. But if you're noticing that there are certain environmental conditions that cause it on a consistent basis, well that might be a reaction to something. The A/A doc will help you to discover it.

You may also want to search the posts on the site for information on allergies. A lot of cfers believe allergies are one of the most under diagnosed problems in cf.

I found an article on the Internet once, or here, that showed the inconsistency of CF doctors in prescribing inhaled steroids. As I said, inflammation is one of the major problems with CF. I responded extremely well to motrin. I can't take it anymore, however, because of bleeding. Luckily, I responded well to inhaled steroids, not every cfer does. My test clearly showed a big bump in lung function with them.

That will be your test if they're working. Does your lung function improve.

I imagine he'll take some blood, probably ige levels.

My son switched from Advair to Symbicort because Symbicort is a water base med. Our doc recommended it because it is the same medication as advair but would be less likely to cause thrush (he had immediately gotten thrush when using advair for only a day or two)

Since it was the first time he had started using advair or anything like it to treat asthma I cannot say if one works any better than the other - we just didn't want to risk another bout with thrush - I can say that the Symbicort, along with Pulmozyme, H-Saline & the Vest for 7 weeks did raise his FEV1 by 11% ! He is 21 years old and just started treatments for CF this July.

I've noticed a big reduction in my thrush since going on the symbicort. However, I have noticed more sore throats.

Interesting your doc said it's water based. I wonder what that means. BTW, advair and symbicort are not the same medications. They are the same concept of medication, long acting Beta agonist combined with a steroid.
