Side effects of Zoloft

So I went on Zoloft almost 2 weeks ago. And so far I feel like I am tolerating it better than other antidepressants I have been on. But I am having some side effects. They are not too severe at this point and I'm not even totally sure they are related to the Zoloft or not. I have had some minor nausea (but I was having this before, it has been a little worse lately) and had the dry heaves yesterday. I would have vomitted but I hadn't eaten in about 5 hours. My insomnia has gotten worse too so I am constantly exhausted. But I have gone through episodes of pretty severe insomnia before as well. I have been having some pretty bad joint pain and general body aches because the weather is getting cold now, so this makes getting comfy at night almost impossible. So my question is, should I call the doc or stick it out for a while longer and see if it gets better? I have an appointment with a rhuematologist on the 15th.

I would stick it out a little longer if you can, especially since these effects are entirely new to you. Sometimes the side effects of antidepressants go away after some time. Also, giving it a bit more time will help you know if it is working otherwise. I know that dealing with antidepressants can be difficult, but the benefits can be great.

What time of day are you taking it? If it is causing the insomnia changing your dosing time might alleviate that. This change in weather could certainly be causing your aches and pains--it is getting cold!

I hope that it it works out for you!

P.S. If you continue to have the problems with insomnia I can recommend a sleep doc.

Hi! I don't have CF, my son does, but I've been on Zoloft for over a year. I'm on 75mg for social anxiety. I take it at night. It will give me horrible heartburn if I take it on an empty stomach. For the first couple of weeks I would wake up in the middle of the night feeling nauseous after taking it right before bed. A couple times I was leaning over the toilet so sure I'd throw up, but I never did. Eating something always helped, or drinking milk. It was kind of a so hungry you could puke feeling, very similar to when I was pregnant. It still happens, but very rarely. It happened a couple nights ago. It also had a couple of headaches the first few weeks.

Also, my sister is only on 50mg for depression/anxiety she's only been on it about 3 weeks. She was fine on 25 mg but since they've bumped her up to 50mg a week ago she has been complaining of headaches and nausea almost every day. But she feels like she needs the higher dosage. She said she'll give it another week, then ask about switching.

Oh, also, I personally don't have insomnia, but every time I go to the doctor for a check-up or refill he asks me if I'm having any trouble sleeping.

Sorry so long, hope this helps! Try to give it a good month before you give up on it.

hey there, i've been on zoloft for almost a year now and when i first started taking it the doc started me out on 25 mg for a week or it might have been 2 and then bumped it up to 50 mg. as soon as i went up to the 50 i couldn't sleep. i basically didn't sleep more than about 2 hours a night for over a week and then i called the doc and told him what was going on and he dropped it back to 25mg for another week. he said it was just my body trying to adjust and when i went back up to 50 mg a little while later i had no problems.
the heartburn...didn't happen to me until i'd been on it for like, 6 months or so then it started happening off and on. i started taking the zoloft with dinner (or any meal would work) and that seems to have stopped it. good luck and i hope things get better!
