Now I heard that this could be some sign of diabetes (but my moms been wrong before) and well I was just wondering if any of you might know....! Oh and also sometimes out if nowhere I will get this horrible faint weak feeling and like I need to gobble down candy preferbly blow pops or something fruity ya know!! Then after a lil bit of grazing its gone.. Ive been tested for diabetes and have had normal results..! Hmm wierd cf is complicating <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

I don't know that I'm going to answer your question well at all, lol, but I can try. The foot thing could just be nerve damage from probably anything (stepping the wrong way, stepping on something, crappy shoes, etc). It could be cf/cfrd related as well...my feet don't get numb, but they don't get very good circulation to begin with so they get cold easily and sometimes hurt. Maybe see a foot doc if it doesn't let up in a few weeks. As far as the weak feeling, maybe see if you can get a glucose monitor and check your sugars when you get that feeling...it sounds like your blood sugar is getting low if you feel better after eating candy. It's weird that you're not diabetic but still may be getting low blood sugar, but I work with a woman like that...all of a sudden she'll just have a low blood sugar out of nowhere. She's not on insulin or anything and her sugars don't get high real easily like a typical diabetic's does. Maybe you have something around the same thing and it just kind of needs to be checked up on often. Sorry if that wasn't much help, lol.

I have slight nerve damage in my elbow that causes numbness in my hand, also some back nerve damage that causes numbness in my thigh. And the orthopedic surgeon did in fact send me for a diabetes test, so there must be some substance to what you have been told, its just nerve damage for me.

Just a thought after re-reading Erins post, do you wear trainers with the laces undone, as with the trend with the younger generation these days. Not that I am saying that you are old and so should not wear them like that, LOL. But the foot will get damaged if it is not properly supported with laces tied in shoes.

Hey there,

Do you get the numb feelings in your feet when you are experiencing the need to eat something? If so it may be something related to your blood sugar. I sometimes feel numb in my limbs when my sugar drops low. Either that or I get a tingling feeling at times.

Also I wanted to say about the urge to eat - it definitely sounds like low blood sugar issues. I would talk to the doc about a glucose monitor for you to check and you can check your sugars when the symptoms arise and that way you will know for sure.

Also I wanted to add - if this pertains to you (though it may not) - you may want to cut back on sugars at meals or high carbohydrate counts at meals. Many of my friends past and present that had hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) tended to eat alot of sugar or high carb foods at meals. What happens is the body releases insulin when you eat - if it senses alot of sugars or carbs your pancreas will release a large amount of insulin to cover the sugar/carbs. A few hours after eating you will start to feel shaky and weak and possibly think to yourself I just ate why do I feel this way - you body released to much insulin and it is hitting your body now. Normally within about 2 hours our bodies have processed and lowered our blood sugar into a normal range from our meal. If you eat less carbs at each meal or maybe increase your protein it may help balance that some. the proteins will help to sustain your sugars - that is why they say if you have low blood sugar attack then drink OJ or something like that and follow it up with peanut butter crackers - the OJ will give you a quick boost and the peanut butter crackers will prolong the effect.

Also something to think about - not to make you panic. My fiance's sister was getting alot of symtpoms similar to diabetes - and hypoglycemia and it turns out that she has a thyroid problem NOT diabetes even though all of her symptoms indicated blood sugar issues. Once she started monitoring her sugars she noticed they were always normal and they then started to look elsewhere for causes of her issues.

Take Care,
Lindsey

OMG I remembering having this and really didnt think much of it except that it was odd. It went away as easily as it came, but now I will have to pay more attention if it comes back. As far as the faint feeling.....I am not officially dx with CFRD, but I have these drops. Its an awful feeling and I try to have something in the car or my purse at all times now because there is no rhyme or reason when it happens to me. Maybe Lindsey is right...maybe its ALL connected to sugars. I hope you find a true answer.

are thyroid problems common with CF? I have been having low blood sugar incidents and am being tested for diabetes but wonder if it could be something else?
