I've been taking Bactrim as a maintenance antibiotic for as long as I can remember.
Every year, I have more and more trouble with this med and the sun. Just going for a 5 minute walk causes me to get a painful and itchy rash all over my arms. My scalp gets it too. My doctor doesn't think it is related to Bactrim, but all over the internet I see it correlated to sun sensitivity and one site said Bactim was a prime cause of solar dermatitis (what I think I have).
I've talked to my doctor and he said I could try going off of it.
I want to do this but I'm a little afraid. First of all, I have cepacia. It is under control, but I worry about rocking the boat. HOWEVER, I've been on Bactrim so long (probably over 10 years) that I'm not sure that it is doing anything for me anyway. I would think most everything would be resistant to it.
About 10 years ago, I was on both Ceclor and Bactrim. I was afraid to go down to one antibiotic then, but it was fine. I'm just not sure what to do now.
I'm sick of having to wear hot baseball caps all summer and having problems even with sunblock on.
Does anyone have any advice?
