Hello,
That's a good question Jessica. There's so much about CF that is so 'COMPLEX'..... They say you can have the same genes and follow different paths...... There are a lot of people here on this site that have more than one child at a time with CF, I'm sure they will be alble to give you more insight.........
I just know that with Makailyn I do not bring her around other CFers.. The CF Foundation says if you are around another CFer , just for them to give a little nod, and wave.......I'm curious myself to hear some of the responce's.
Bless you sweetie,,,,,,,,,,,Karla

I think the main issue that the CFF is warning against is cross contamination with the bacteria we grow in our lungs. I don't know if you have ever been in the hospital Jessica but most of the time they put the CF patients rooms by themselves--isolation with contact precautions.

Because the bacterias we culture cause infection which leads to scar tissue and loss of lung function the fewer bacterias you culture the better! and since we don't all have the same bacterias they recommend keeping cfers apart so that we don't give each other bugs that we are not already culturing to try and minimize the risks of future infections.

This is not to say you won't pick up these bacterias other places out in the world......

There are a lot of other cfers here that have met up with each other in person and obviously people that are in your situation with their siblings that haven't had any ill-affects from being around each other so just be smart about it with handwashing, good hygiene, etc.

My sister and I both have CF, but we have had totally different experiences and symptoms. It is true that you can transfer bacteria to one another. For example, most of my bacteria is resistant, and my sister's is not. Therefore I am paranoid about giving her my germs.

We both have the same CF doc and so I asked her about this same thing. She says that sharing drinks or food is the most common way to share germs. As long as you and your sister avoid that you should be fine. I am way more conscious of this than my little sister for some reason. It's hard at times because I don't want to alienate her, she's my sister! Yet at the same time, I really don't want her to catch my bugs.

Hope that helps <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
