Magnesium ?

Magnesium is very important for pwcf. It helps with calcium absorption. It helps to reduce acidity in the body. It relaxes smooth muscle (good for bronchioconstriction), helps the heart, blood pressure, etc. Many CF meds deplete the body of magnesium. Studies have shown that Pseudomonas is more likely to become mucoid when the body is magnesium deficient.

A couple of things to be aware of when taking magnesium or any supplement that contains minerals:
1) When taking oral antibiotics, always take magnesium or mineral supplements 2 hours after or 4 hours before all oral antibiotics. The minerals will compete for absorption and can reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics from 50% to 90%.

2) Do not take magnesium and enzymes together. Magnesium can reduce the stomach acidity and cause premature release of the enzymes.

Cfers do not only get less vitamins out of meals, but also minerals! With diabetes you do also need more minerals.
I do take ADEKs,calcium, magnesium and iron (all at different times a day) since years plus sometimes extra zinc.

Yeah the spacing with Magnesium is annoying, especially if you take lots of antibiotics and acid reflux meds. I told my doctor about it back a few years ago and he had no problem with it, in fact said "yeah you probably should take them" ... I was like, "thanks for letting me know..." (he's not my doctor anymore)

Anyway, i think they are definitely a good thing for any cf er to look into
