i was on ibuprofen for a long time (from about age 6-22) and when i was little i think it definitely helped. i eventually stopped it a couple years ago because it wasn't really doing anything for me anymore. i had no change in my pfts or anything when i stopped it--except i actually felt it when i got a headache hahaha! but yeah, it's been shown to help a lot of kids as paula posted previously so it's definitely something worth trying. i know it helped me. i've never heard of a 1 year old being on it though so maybe chat with your doc about that and see if that's truly a good idea at such a young age. here is a previous thread about anti-inflammatory meds where ibuprofen is talked about some. definitely worth a look hth....

Hi,

My CF doctor is the one who developed this treatment and he is very passionate about it. So I was put on the treatment shortly after it was approved for treatment. I was on it from ages 13-26. I found great benefits from it and I believe it helped my lung functions significantly. I think it kept the inflammation down a lot and I am glad I was able to take it for as long as I did.

I started to have problems with the stomach side effects and had constant stomach/esophageal pain from taking it. The ibuprofen didn't really bother my stomach until my mid-teens, which was when I had to start taking antacids. Then eventually I moved up to taking 4 Nexium/day until I decided it wasn't worth it anymore. Now I take Zithro MWF and Advair for the inflammation, although I don't think they work as good as the ibuprofen. But I know for sure I would never be able to take the ibuprofen as a treatment again because even when I try to take it for headaches now I get severe stomach pains. Just have to stick with Tylenol now

Good luck.

I am curious for those who take it.....do you feel it helps because of your lungs alone or does it make you feel better over all thus making your lungs feel better?

I ask because although I dont & cant take the high dose therapy, when I do take some for joint pain, I feel much better overall including my lungs!!

I also wanted to add that whenever Austin is in for a tuneup he is takin off of the ibuprofen therapy during treatment.

He is checked with yearly lab draws to make sure he is still getting the right amounts.

And we have to keep an eye on the things the others have mentioned on here. Such as the stomach aches and bleeding.
