hemoptysis and vitamin k

Thanks guys,
I just had a call back from our nurse. She is calling in additional vitamin K and if we have any more bleeding..any amount, back in we go. I really think the vit K is the culprit, as his PFTs have improved on the iv abx. He has been on pulmozyme for years with no trouble. So, we are on this high dose vitamin K for a month and after that I will talk with them about Faust's product. I put the link in my favorites. Thanks for sending it!

He has never had bleeding like this before, (amount, brightness, etc.) and it just makes me wonder why we are having this problem now. We were on the same iv abx back in November with no trouble. All of these questions are driving me crazy!

I'm not saying that Pulmozyme is a culprit--it could very well be Vitamin K--I'm just saying don't discount the possibility.

Good luck with finding the culprit of the bleeds, it could be many things. People on here have various reasons for bleeds. Regardless what the culprit or culprits are though, a high dose of vitamin K should be standard for all CF's in my opinion. You would have to eat a really large amount of vitamin K dense foods to get a level of vitamin K that is of a medicinal level.
