Hangover

Well, I posted alot of info that I gathered from my dietician in the Families folder under Nutrition! Diet!, so check it out. But I also asked her about those times that my brain is a jellyfish in the ocean in my head, cause I drank to much tequilla and I woke up seein' red. I wondered if the hangover cure should be any different for a CFer. She told me fluids, fluids, fluids! Take your vitimins when you can walk to the medicine cabinet or can con your roomate to do it for you, and eat when you can keep it down. You're going to miss out on some calories while you pray to the porcline god, so try to drink some juices (maybe ones that aren't too acidic) and pop a few tums to help control reflux. Party on,Debbie22 yr old w/ CF

4 advil (800 mg) when you go to bed, with a glass of water. Same when you wake up. Drink lots of water or gatorade and the grease in french fries helps a lot too (no joke). But you can take 800 mg of advil, every 4-6 hours if needed. Ibuprophren/advil, also helps keep inflammation down in the lungs. p.s. Also takes the red out of a sunburn.I'm not a Dr., but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

If you've already got liver damage, or if you're drinking hard, avoid ibuprofin and tylenol b/c they can up set your stomach and your liver works extra hard to expell them. Stick to Asprin.

If you already have liver damage or the pain of hangovers ( I've had hangovers and know they are not fun) then why not try something else for fun? There are many substitutes for alcoholic beverages. A little pain now and the rewards later, or a lot of rewards now and a lot pain later. Food for Thought

Fortunately I've been blessed with a hell of a tolerance for alcohol. I can drink most of my friends under the table & NEVER wake up with a hangover... sure I've woken up a few times still drunk from the night before, but never really sick from drinking. I really think you should check with your CF doctor to see if taking Advil, or anything with Ibuprofen is okay for you. I know that I've been told and have experienced Hemoptisis (throwing up blood) several times from over usage of Advil. The Ibuprofen does reduce inflamation, but can cause Hemoptisis. I am actually replying to this in the hospital. I've been in on IV antibiotics for 2 weeks (cephtaz & tobra) and should be out in time for Christmas. About a month ago I became really congested and tight, so I started taking Advil to releave the feeling. After 4 days of work I found myself sitting at my desk in work throwing up a lot of blood. That told me to stop the Advil & have the doctors get rid of the congestion. I assume that you are probably using Pulmozyme, as it greatly helps our situation. If your using Advil and it causes you to continuously throw up blood, the doctors will stop you from using the Pulmozyme, as it may cause additonal blood loss. It's not good to have to stop the Pulmozyme, as it has done wonders for prolonging lung damage. If you ever want to talk or have any questions, feel free to e-mail me (farbeyond1978@yahoo.com) I would be glad to B.S with anyone. Take it easy & good luck!!!Drink recommendation: Grateful Dead
