From my understanding, the Colistin death had nothing to do with the eFlow itself. They were sending her pre-mixed Colistin. And apparently Colistin begins to break down the minute it's mixed into stuff that's bad for the lungs. So if it sits too long (i.e. if you don't mix it and use it immediately), it's detrimental instead of beneficial.

I understand what you're saying about the companies not knowing any better. But that's the only thing you can really relate to them about the Colistin death. Because if anyone had gotten pre-mixed Colistin for a regular nebulizer, the same problem would be present.

weird about the colistin in the eflow...thats how i got my eflow was to use specifically with that nebulizer. hmmmm...anyway my docs told me NEVER to do tobi in the eflow but that pulmozyme would be ok but another nebulizer would be preferable if at all possible. they said the dose of tobi that comes in the vials would deliver too high of a dose through the eflow. i believe i have read in other posts that people do their tobi in the eflow at the approval of their doc so maybe it just varies from clinic to clinic? i'm sorry thats not more helpful...
oh my doc also said i could do my HTS in the eflow but its SO strong i have a hard time tolerating it for more than a minute.

And Piper, it depends on who you ask. I use Pulmozyme in the eFlow every day -- have since last summer. I also do Colistin and HTS in it.

Emily,

No, the Collistin death was not e-flow related, you are correct. It was just a comment on or a reflection of the compound companies and their knowledge and judgement. Collistin should not have been pre-mixed and given as a 30 day supply, from my understanding of the case. I have no personal experience with Collistin, so I know little about it.
