Hi!,
I am 27... 5 years out of college now, but thought I'd share my experience. My freshman year I requested a single. I would HIGHLY recommend that if your daughter is at all intimidated at doing her medications in front of others. I think I wouldn't have done as good airway clearance my freshman year if I was self conscious about what my roommate I just met would think as I was coughing stuff up. Not to mention, freshman year is hard. You're on your own, trying to figure out how to adjust, manage your health, school, new friends... if you're sick and just want to lie down, it's nice to be able to do that without worrying that your roommate will be blasting music, have friends in the room, etc, etc. Sure it is possible that the roommate will work out perfectly as others have suggested, but I've heard a ton of freshman year roommate horror stories, so why take the chance? Plenty of times, my friends would be over in my room looking for refuge from their roommates <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
The next three years, I had roommates. They were friends I had met, understood my situation, and they were awesome!! I may have caught a few more colds living with them than alone, but that was worth it to me...
In terms of sterilizing nebulizers, get a microwave for the dorm room! I would think that would be easiest and best. I remember using vinegar back in freshman year, back when that was recommended... it isn't anymore!!
