BORDERLINE ECG, HEART PROBLEMS FROM C.F. ANYONE?

I am wondering if anybody has had heart problems because of the stressors in a life with c.f.

I was hospitalized because of chest pains i had that were not my normal obstructed airway chest pain. I had an ecocardiogram done and ekg's. I read on my chart that I was borderline ECG with right atrial enlargement. I realize that part of my heart is larger now or it grew to compensate for my body's efforts to breathe etc. Thats what i was told by doctors at a local hospital.

Can c.f. bring about heart problems?

I notice now that I am having heart pain from time to time. Its quick. But i do see it coming when I think of stressful things. Or for no reason at all.
Does anyone in this site know or have experienced heart problems or know what borderline ecocardiogram mean for a c.f. person at age 44?

I guess I can ask the doctor, but I know well that from the patient point of view we learn a lot more.

Thanks for all the advice you can shed on this.

Hi there,

I do not have this problem, but have recently started to undergo testing for lung transplant. When I went to the transplant center for the first time I was told that I would have an ECG done with contrast to see if my heart was enlarged. Sometimes -like you said- when we have a harder time breathing if we are oxygen deprived and such for prolonged periods our heart can be stressed and thus start to enlarge according to the docs.

Are you on Oxygen? If you are NOT maybe you need to be that may help with some of the heart issues - maybe not make it normal again but possibly keep it from getting any worse. I am not overly sure, just a thought. I would talk to your doc and ask them why this happens and what you can do to control the problem if not correct it.

I hope you start to feel better and things get better for you.

Take Care,
Lindsey

I recently had some breathing problems and my doc wanted me on oxygen at home for a while (was on Home IV) I did not like the idea of being on oxygen and she explained that when our Sats go below 90 (mine were 88) we stress the heart causing it to enlarge. She said this is something we want to avoid as heart problems is not something we want to add to our list of things to treat <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">.
