Bone pain

I don't think a bone scan would hurt. DD gets them every two years. She has low bone density and low vitamin D. Her growth plates are still open. THe bone density is easy to do. You just lay on the table and they scan the left hip. DD did get her entire body done on this one. Her bone age is behind her real age about 2 years. She goes through bouts of leg pain but nothing like M is dealing with. Mind you she has a very high level for pain.
It is useful information. You also need calcium to help obsorb vit D.

just to chime in that my hubby has pretty severe and until recently unexplained pains in his legs. Now they hurt more after he has been on them but here are the three main things the doctors explored (leaving out the support stocking and vericose vein ideas since it doesnt sond applicable as well as the knee specialist)

#1 his back there are certain areas in the back that if there is subluxation or nerve impediment of some form can cause back pain. Yes this is applicable to kids.

#2 low vitamin d, they had hubby start taking higher than normal doses as it can cause bone pain.

#3 his feet--which surprisingly enough was the cause of the pain. Some foot problems will result in leg pain. Again probably not the source for M but if you are searching everythign and grasping at straws then?

I appreciate seeing you stick up for M whcih is the primary reason I am posting. I had a doctor also suggest that all my stomach pain was 'in my head' at 5yo before being diagnosed.

You know, Nicole, those are some really good suggestions. M is extremely stiff. He's been in OT for nearly a year now, and he's able to move more of his body and torso but his torso is still extremely stiff. He also still has most of his primitive reflexes intact that never faded from infancy, although after a year of therapy they are not as strong as they once were.

I might talk to his therapist about this leg pain issue. It might be something she can spot in OT, or it might be time to re-evaluate (again) for PT.
