I've been doing a lot of research on this, and it sounds like cases like my husband's have only been medically recognized within the past 15 years. One study, from Boston University in 1992, concluded:

<begin quote>Some, if not all, otherwise healthy men with CBAVD (Congenital Bilateral Absence of the Vas Deferens - found in 97% of men wih CF) reflect a newly recognized, primarily genital, phenotype of CF. </end quote>

His urologist said he has a "genital form of CF" so that would fit. 2perfectboys, I don't know if the mutations are on the same strand - I'll ask our genetic counselor via email if they know that. And I had no idea that there are accredited CF facilities - I'll have to look into that in our area (Madison/Milwaukee/Chicago).
We're going to explore both IVF and adoption, and weigh our options. Kelli, thank you for sharing your experiences... you sound like you have a very full and happy life! I do have a son from a previous relationship who calls my husband "Daddy." We have thought, too, about not having any more. He'll be 8 soon, and I know the next decade will just fly by.
And mneville, julie, and mom2lillian - thank you for sharing your IVF experiences... I've got some blogs to catch up on, and I may very well send an email or a PM out as we're gathering info on this. I'm nervous about the procedure itself as well as the high chance of multiples! It's a lot to take in.
Sakasuka, my best friend was adopted from South Korea. My husband has immediate family in Australia and South Africa as well as extended family in Scotland and New Zealand... international adoption is definitely something we're considering, too! It makes a lot of sense with our family. And, of course, I'm even looking into IVF abroad, too. (Yeah, I like to know my options!)
Thank you all for your thoughts and kind words... I'm sure I'll be around here more in the weeks and months to come.
