My husband wants to travel to Denver in June. I have never traveled with the vest. I have always taken my flutter. Well, I don't have that "lung function" luxury anymore. I have a small portable vest with a travel case; but, how the heck to you take it on the plane. I sure as heck am not going to check the bag and If I carry it on they will probably make me tag it and put it with the luggage to get when I get off the plane. I would have to have it with me all the time to feel secure that it would not get damaged. I think it is too big to store in an overhead commpartment. How on earth do you guys do this?

Which model do you have? I would call the airlines and ask for the deminsions of the overhead and underseat storage area. Tell them about your CF and that you have $13,000 piece of medical equipment that you have to carry with you because it can not me picked up and thrown around. I used to work on the american airlines ramp and trust me some people will just throw the luggage on the carts, dont let them tell you they dont. I know they usually have a specal compartment that the stweardess uses and maybe where they store like first class coats and ask to have permission to place your medical equipment there. Just dont back down this is important for us and they are suppoesd to do everything they can to help people with medical issues!!

I believe most people take it on as a carry-on. It's considered medical equipment, so it's exempt from the per bag maximum. I think a couple people have gotten carry-on sized suit cases and have placed their vest inside that along with a nebulizer and meds... Noexcuses has done so...

My husband is flying with our 2 girls today. He called the airline ahead of time and told them he'd be traveling with an oversize piece of medical equipment that needed to be in the cabin. We also got a letter from the Dr stating that it could not be checked. For security purposes the Dr also said that we'd have an ice pack in the carry ons for the pulmozyme.

I'll let you know if he has any problems with the plan. I think worst case scenario will be if they make him throw out the ice pack, but it is only a 1 1/2 hr flight so the pulmozyme should be ok.
