Shallow breathing

I was wondering if any of you have "shallow breathing" or else have habits of holding your breath?

(note: I have "mild" lung issues. My lungs do feel wierd and irritated.. and I randomly dry cough..have had lung infections and pleurisy in the past. I'm not on any daily lung treatments.. I do have an inhaler)

Two different singing teachers years ago and years apart said that I seem to have a habit of frequently holding my without realizing it. I've noticed this while talking on the phone.. if I talk for a long time, I'll all of a sudden have to take a huge gasp of air. My wife has caught me "not breathing" at night..she'll give me a shove and I take this huge gasp of air.

yes i do the same thing. i am really trying to break this habit. i think my posture contributes to it. i have awful posture-but i notice sitting up straight helps me get in deeper air.
wondering why you aren't on daily lung treatments?-if you have a diagnosis you should be on daily treatments, no matter how mild you are. you want to stay mild after all.
how you feel is generally a gauge of how you are. if you a doing the holding breath while talking thing, your lungs are probably under stress. i would also wonder if not breathing at night could have something to do with apnea?
talk to your doc about all these symptoms. you don't have to live with being uncomfortable out of breath or shallow breath. shallow breathing isn't good bc you aren't using your lower lobes and they need the circulation.
stay well!

I have the shallow breathing (even when feeling good) & the bad habit of holding my breath especially during activity.

I have to work very hard about being concious of my breathing patterns. It just doesnt seem right that we should have to work so hard at something that is suppose to be natural.

BUT it is what it is.....
