Period question

Hi all,

My hubby and I recently resumed "trying" after a rocky couple of years healthwise. In the past, my cycles were between 27 - 28 days. For the last two months, they have been 23 & 24 days. I know that technically 21 days or longer is considered a normal cycle. I am just wondering if anyone else had a sudden change in the length of their cycles. I am concerned about how it might impact my fertility (i.e. it is being caused by an underlying hormonal problem).

Thanks!

The part of your cycle that matters the most to TTC is your luteal phase. Do you know how long yours is? As long as it is AT LEAST 10 days (although some do consider that too short) then you should be ok cycle wise. If your luteal phase is too short there could be a problem you would need to address with your gyn.

Based on the ovulation test strips, I ovulate between day 16 & 19 of my cycle, so no, mostly likely my luteal phase doesn't last 10 days <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

A few things to consider-
Have you just come off of birth control?
With my first, I was off of it for 6 months before getting pregnant.
With the 2nd, it took a good year of being off BC for my cycles to get back to normal, despite the docs saying that normal periods should return immediately-it just doesn't always happen.
Have you just stopped Cayston or other antibiotics? They can also alter your cycles.
Is there alot of stress in your life right now?-I personally think stress is the #1 thing that messes up cycles.

Hi,

I've been off BC for a quite a while. A little over a month ago, I was on prednisone and IV meds. I chalked last month's cycle up to the steriods, but am surprised that this month's seems off too.

Mary - Try Red Raspberry Leaf Tea and Vitex to help naturally lengthen your LP. You can also take B6. If you don't get longer LPs after a few months of the natural stuff it is time to talk to your OB. From what I've read, try 1,000 mg daily of the RRL and 1,000 mg daily of the vitex. Vitex doesn't usually work right away so you need to give it at least 1 month, if not longer, to see results.

Caroline,

Thanks! I actually started taking b6 last week. I just ordered some Vitex. I'll have to get the red raspberry tea leaf and just hope for the best!
