Foot Problems

It has been an ongoing problem, but seems to be frequent...

My feet easily get calloused, and my hands are to, btw.

I actually had a calous crack and it hurt to walk...the wife looked up in her source (probably the net) for the cause of it, and said it had to do with Diabetes and the lack of blood circulation.

Anyone more familiar with this? And what do you do to treat it?

My hands were extremely chapped a month back, but has improved since then. Still, I have a lot of dried and chapped skin.

There is a type of eczema that only effects hands and feet. Not to mention they get dry anyway just because that skin is used/exposed more than any other part of the body. Get a nice greasy lotion, slather it on thick, and put on socks and cotton gloves, then go to bed with them on. It helps a lot.

My understanding is that you have to be diabetic for a while to get that type of problem (could be wrong), so you would have other symptoms first. Like frequent urination, excessive thirst, weight loss.

THere was another guy around here, Pianist I think it was, who had severely chapped hands. It might be CF related or it could just be something you get. I do know that because of our chloride transport issues we tend to get very wrinkly very quickly in the water (tub or shower) so I guess it stands to reason that dryness, especially where there's a lot of excessive sweating going on like with the feet, could be part of CF too.

This is going to sound like a "girly" treatment for the dry feet, but something that works well for me is to get some Vitamin E oil or lotion, slather my feet with it before bed, then put gallon size plastic bags over my feet (I have large feet) and then put a pair of tube socks on over the baggies. It's a little weird feeling at first, but by the morning my feet feel refreshed and moisturized.

When I was younger I had serious issues with my hands and feet peeling constantly. As I have gotten older it isn't so much of an issue.

As to the ecxema issue. Kurt deals with this on his hands and it can be very uncomfortable. He was given some type of cream/lotion to use on his hands - one week on one week off or something like that. When he used it it helped slightly, but his hands would crack and still do sometimes for no particular reason.

As for the diabetes issue - I have read that you are supposed to put lotion on your feet every night or something - NOT between your toes for some reason though I am not really sure why - but on your feet and hands in general.

I hope that you find a solution.

Take Care,
Lindsey
