I read in the paper yesterday that drinking caffeine raises blood sugar by a lot, and the effect can last for up to six hours. As much as it was a surprise to me, it also makes sense, cause whenever i eat carbs in the morning, a couple hours later i crash, and it doesn't happen to other meals during the day. Also, whenever i drink coffee in the afternoon, I get sweaty and stuff, and i figured it was just from the sugar in the coffee, but i guess the caffeine adds even more to the sugar rush.

Anyways, for those that are insulin resistant, check your caffeine intake! Maybe that will help

The study appears in the most recent issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

For healthy people, the implication is "no big deal," Prof. Graham says.

"If my glucose goes a bit higher and I'm over it in a couple of hours, I'm happy and I've had my coffee."

The same doesn't hold for obese people who are sedentary and don't exercise. These people are already insulin resistant and at risk for Type 2 diabetes.

"For those people who suspect they're at risk, or are at risk or have diabetes, the caffeinated coffee with any cereal, anything that has carbohydrate in it, you are going to be experiencing a much bigger surge in blood glucose and your body will try, and hopefully can, produce enough extra insulin to manage it," Prof. Graham says.

I like this part best... but of course I LOOOVE my coffee! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I have never noticed a difference in my BG levels if I have caffeine or not since I was dx'd with CFRD. Now I want to go test out their theory!

I like this part best... but of course I LOOOVE my coffee! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I have never noticed a difference in my BG levels if I have caffeine or not since I was dx'd with CFRD. Now I want to go test out their theory!
