Best compressors

My compressor crapped out on me. Against my request, they sent me an inspiration elite. Has anyone ever used this one? I have always used Pari and kind of thought that was the brand of choice for CFers. Is that right? Is it also true that we have to use the LCPlus nebulizer for Pulmozyme and Tobi? Can you use that brand of nebulizer with a different brand compressor? Afterall, they all just blow air, or suck wind, depending on the day.

Thanks for help or any suggestions on new and better compressors. In the past I have had Pari Pro-Neb Ultra the white and also gray model. They are spendy and really don't seem to last too long.

Here's what I found:

----------------------------------

Pulmozyme insert

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
The recommended dose for use in most cystic fibrosis patients is one 2.5 mg single-use ampule inhaled once daily using a recommended nebulizer. Some patients may benefit from twice daily administration (see Clinical Experience, Table 1). Clinical trial results and laboratory information are only available to support use of the following nebulizer/compressor systems (see Table 3).

* Patients who are unable to inhale or exhale orally throughout the entire nebulization period may use the PARI BABYtm nebulizer.

Patients who use the Sidestream® Nebulizer with the MOBILAIREtm compressor should turn the compressor control knob fully to the right and then turn on the compressor. At this setting, the needle on the pressure gauge should vibrate between 35 and 45 pounds per square inch (highest pressure output).

No data are currently available that support the administration of Pulmozyme with other nebulizer systems. The patient should follow the manufacturer's instructions on the use and maintenance of the equipment.

--------------------------------------------

My home healthcare company did the same thing to me, and I made them take it back (big ol' loud, cheap looking compressor anyways) and, since they said they didn't sell Pari (after Pari was what I had specifically requested!), I went to another company, and got what I wanted. I did have to show them that there were recommended compressor/neb combinations for Pulmozyme.

They are different, and there can be a difference in air pressure, which affects particle size. Particle size is important for Pulmozyme and Tobi.

About what is best, beats me these days. I would have said Pari, since the first compressor I got from them- about 15 years ago? was great- lasted forever. But the last 2 versions, the Pari Proneb Ultra lasted longer, and the Ultra II, well, it had to be replaced after a couple of months, which I have heard was a problem.

Their customer service with getting the replacements, however, was pretty good.

I'd print this out, show it to them, and make them take it back, IMHO.

We've got a pari proneb ultra II and a devilbiss pulmoaid. I'm a little wary of the pari 'cuz the first one we had was worthless from day one and being new parents of a cfer we didn't know that 25 minutes of duoneb and 45-50 minutes of tobi wasn't the norm until we got a devilbiss pulmoaid from a relative for use at the inlaws.

I do prefer the compactness of the pari and recently purchased a new one mainly for use when we travel out of town, but now that DS does his vest in the family room while playing video games, I keep the Devilbiss upstairs in our bedroom for his early morning CPT.
