Hi everyone !

As some of you know, I am having trouble tolerating TOBI (tightness, wheezing, etc.). I thought of something this past week and I wanted to know what you all think :) FYI : I do Ventolin, Symbicort and Spiriva before my TOBI.

I've never just nebbed 0,9 % Sodium Chloride (in my lungs) but I'm wondering if I should ... Nebbing 0.9% between my TOBI treatments should moisturize my lungs and help get the phlegm out too. Spiriva and TOBI seem to dry out the lungs so maybe that doesn't help me tolerate TOBI and is responsible for part of my symptoms ... Any thoughts ?

Note : I don't have a prescription for 7%. My lung spec. did not want me to do it because lots of his patients do not tolerate it and get bronchospasms ...

Our 3 year old son has been doing 7% hypertonic saline for about a year. We started it very slowly, 20 seconds, 30 seconds, etc. but within 1 month he was doing 15ish minutes--full dosing. Never had a problem. My understanding is need a bronchial dialator first (Xopenex) to prevent the spasm. I have no idea if the doctor is concerned b/c you are having an excerbation or the interation with other meds, but that risk of bronchial spasm is not that great in general (see above--2 year old doing!), especially if you start it slowly. I'd strongly recommend asking the doctor if you can try it and do it very slowly to build up comfort to it and ask if it is a general concern of spasm or b/c of your specific condition.
